LOS ANGELES — It came down to two tiebreakers to decide the outcome on Saturday, when the University of San Francisco men's tennis team faced the USC Trojans. The Dons however dropped the match 5-2.
"It was an amazing battle from the Dons," said head coach Pablo Pires de Almeida. "We were really proud of the way they fought."
The Dons started the match strong with a 6-3 doubles win from Paul Giraud and Ryan Marker. Although Lucas Marinelli and Oliver Poysti dropped their doubles 6-4, Johan Joenhagen and Mert Zincirli came back with a 7-5 win to secure the doubles point.
USC gained wins early in the single matches over Poysti (6-0, 6-2), Zincirli (6-1, 6-4) and Giraud (7-6, 6-2), but Marker brought in a point for his team with a 6-4, 7-6 win. The tiebreakers came down to Marinelli and Joenhagen to decide the match, but both ultimately fell to USC.

The Dons remain on the road for a full weekend, starting Saturday, Feb. 17 against UC Santa Barbara. The next day, USF will travel to San Luis Obispo, Calif. to face Cal Poly on Sunday, Feb. 18. First serves are at 1 and 12 p.m., respectively.
