SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Junior
Frankie Ferrari has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday morning. Ferrari was the catalyst that guided the Dons to their first 2-0 week in conference play this season, which included wins over No. 15 Saint Mary's and Loyola Marymount.
For the week, Ferrari led USF with 37 points and 13 assists, all while shooting 65.0 percent from the field and 80.0 percent from 3-point range.
In the Dons' upset of No. 15 Saint Mary's, Ferrari was phenomenal. He led all scorers with 20 points, going 7-for-11 from the field and was a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. His seven assists that night was tops in the game. He led the Dons back from an 11-point first half deficit, the largest deficit the Dons have overcome this season.
Trailing 27-16 with 7:33 in the half, Ferrari scored nine points in the Dons 19-11 run to close the half down three at the break. In the second half of that contest against the Gaels he was 3-for-4 from the field, 1-for-1 from 3-point range and 2-for-3 from the free throw line in the second half.
Ferrari backed up his performance against SMC with a spectacular performance against the Lions on Saturday. He finished with a team-high 17 points, while dishing out six assists. Ferrari was every economical with his shot selection, going 6-for-9 for the evening and 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. After the break, he led the Dons with 11 points and three assists.
Ferrari is the first Don to earn WCC Player of the Week since Avery Holmes did it Mar. 3, 2014.
USF (16-13, 8-8 WCC) will begin the final week of the regular season on the road when they travel to Stockton, Calif., to take on Pacific. The Dons will return home for the regular season finale on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. when San Diego comes to the Hilltop. Saturday's game will be Senior Night. Tickets are available at
