SAN FRANCISCO - Shane Tye has joined the USF Volleyball's coaching staff, led by head coach Frank Lavrisha.
Tye was born and raised in Salt Lake City and attended Taylorsville High School where he was a three time all-state athlete. He joined the Brigham Young University volleyball team in 2011. Tye was a three-year player for the Cougars before graduating in 2015 with a bachelors in exercise and wellness.
After earning his degree, he became an assistant coach at Southern Utah University for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. He was also a practice coordinator at the University of Utah where he coached at one of the highest levels. Before that, Tye worked as a strength and conditioning coach and a club coach for Club V.
Although he mostly worked in Utah, he traveled across the country for eight years hosting volleyball camps while working with Gold Medal Squared. The camps were structured as clinics where Tye taught fundamentals of volleyball to all age groups.
"We are very excited to have Shane Tye join our Volleyball coaching staff," said head coach Frank Lavrisha. "Coach Tye brings tremendous experience from his playing days at BYU, being tutored by some of our sport's greatest coaches, and his involvement with Gold Medal Squared camp network. Coach Tye will work with our blockers and scheme the defensive side of our game. His most recent experience at Southern Utah gives him the background to slide right into this role for USF. In addition, Coach Tye will share his beach experience with the Dons' beach program. A great trainer and teacher of the game, we see Coach Tye as a key part of our future development."
Coach Tye is looking forward to working on the Hilltop saying, "I am very excited to be a part of USF volleyball and work with this program. It will be an honor to work with a coach as successful as Frank, who is very respected in the coaching community. Both Frank and USF came with the highest regards from others in the volleyball world and I'm ready to contribute all I can to that legacy."
