MBB | Dons Sign Dzmitry Ryuny for 2018

SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco men's basketball team has signed forward Dzmitry Ryuny to a National Letter of Intent, joining Dylan Belquist and Trevante Anderson to the Dons' 2018-19 recruiting class.

Ryuny, a native of Minsk, Belarus, transferred to Central Park Christian High School in Birmingham, Ala., for his senior year.  While living in Birmingham he played for Team Carroll (AL) on the Adidas Gauntlet Circuit in the spring of 2018 where he averaged 20.3 points per game.

'We are excited to welcome Dzmitry into our basketball family here at the University of San Francisco," said associate coach Todd Golden, the primary recruiter for Ryuny.  "Dzmitry is a tall, long, and skilled forward that has a knack for scoring and spreading the floor.  He also does a good job using his length and size to make plays on the defensive end.  He has gained some really good experience playing internationally with his Belarusian National Team, and we believe he will be a very good fit for our program."

As a 17-year-old, the 6-9 200 pound forward, played for Belarus in the 2017 FIBA U18 B Championships last summer in Tallinn, Estonia.  In that tournament, he averaged 15.8 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.  In eight contests he averaged 2.1 made 3-point field goals per contest.  He finished fifth in the entire event in player efficiency rating with 27.9.

Ryuny chose USF over offers from Alabama and Texas Tech, saying: "First thing and very important is getting a good education.  My big dream is to become an NBA player and to be the first from Belarus who did that."

He chose the Dons because San Francisco is a big city, which he likes, with an excellent university and is competitive in the West Coast Conference. He will be competing again for Belarus in the 2018 FIBA U18 B Championships this summer in Skopje, Macedonia.
