SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco's Director of Creative Video Katie Morgan added another award to her name last night, winning the Northern California Area Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement Sports-Program Feature/Segment. This is Morgan's third award for her feature, "Joey's Journey," and her fourth total award adding to her previous USTFCCCA Excellence in communication award, as well as a Telly and Sports Video Group (SVG) College Sports Media award.
At the 47th annual Northern California Area Emmy award presentation, Katie Morgan was nominated for Sports-Program Feature/Segment for her Behind the Mask on USF Baseball's Joey Carney, titled "Joey's Journey". Morgan's feature would go on to win its third award, and her third Emmy overall.
"It's such an honor to receive the NorCal Emmy award for the Sports Program Feature Segment. The access and trust that our video staff receives from the athletic department, the coaches, and players is absolutely amazing. And this is exactly what head coach Nino Giarratano and the Carney family gave us, which is what I believe led to the Emmy win," said Morgan. "Joey Carney is one of those special people who sacrificed for someone he loved and I'm so glad I was one of few who got to tell his story. Special thanks to Ruizhi Lin who captured some of the most heartfelt scenes in the hospital. This win is dedicated in loving memory of Paula Carney."
Earlier this week, Morgan won a Telly and Sports Video Group College Sports Media award for her feature on Carney.
