SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco men's basketball team had five players named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic team as announced by the conference office on Wednesday, four earning first team honors. Nate Renfro, Matt McCarthy, Jordan Ratinho and Charles Minlend earned first team honors and Jimbo Lull earned honorable mention accolades.

To qualify, a student-athlete must be of at least sophomore standing, own a minimum 3.20 grade point average and be a starter or an important reserve, having participated in at least 50 percent of the institution's completed contests.

For Renfro, this is his third time on the list.  The senior from Tucson, Ariz., sports a 3.83 cumulative grade point average as a business administration major.  The Dons' co-captain posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall semester.  This season Renfro is having a career year, he is averaging 7.2 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game.

McCarthy, a kinesiology major with a 3.36 cumulative GPA, earns first team honors for the first time, he was on the honorable mention team last year.  McCarthy is one of the most efficient players in the league this season, in 18.3 minutes per game he is averaging 9.4 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 63.2 percent from the field which ranks third in the conference.

Ratinho, also a business administration major, with a 3.86 GPA earns first team honors the second time in his career. This season, Ratinho has moved into second all-time for 3-point field goals made, with 195. Against the Waves last week, Ratinho hit a career-high seven 3-point field goals in a spectacular shooting display.  For the year he is averaging 9.7 points per game while shooting 44.2 percent from the field.  Ratinho and Renfro are one of just four players to earn multiple first team honors.

Minlend, a redshirt sophomore earns first team honors for the first time he is eligible. The Business/Finance major boasts a cumulative gpa of 3.54.  His return to the Dons starting lineup has been outstanding, he is leading the team in scoring averaging 14.9 points per game he has scored in double figures in 24 of the Dons' 26 games this year.

Lull in the midst a career-year, earns Honorable Mention honors for the first time in his career.  The junior is a Business Administration major who has a 3.47 gpa.  He has started in all but one contest for the Dons this season and is averaging 8.5 points per game and shooting 60.1 percent from the field – which ranks fourth in the WCC.

As a team, USF excelled in the classroom this past fall.  The Dons carried a team-wide GPA of 3.4 with 11 players on USF's roster with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher – four players: Ratinho, Renfro, Remu Raitanen and Dzmitry Ryuny tallied perfect 4.0 gpas last semester.

The Dons will return to action Thursday night when they take on BYU at the Marriott Center in Provo.  The game is slated for a 6:00 p.m. PST tip and will be televised on BYUtv.
