SEATTLE — Looking for a spot in the 2019 NCAA Indoor National Championships, the San Francisco track team took a big leap Friday, with the distance medley team running the fastest time in USF history on the first day of the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor facility.

The distance medley team of Dana Klein, Samantha Lind, Alena Ulrichova and Megan Davies set a USF record with a time of 11 minutes, 28.64 seconds. They were only four-thousandths of a second behind Oregon State, finishing fourth in their heat and ninth overall in the event. The quartet beat out teams from California, UCLA, Arizona State and UC Davis, among others.

The sprinting crew had a busy day as well on day one of the MPSF Championships. Marli Bonney and Maya Shaw both pulled doubles in the 60 meters and the 200. Bonney led the Dons with top-50 finishes in the 60 (42nd, 25.99) and the 60 (48th, 7.98). Julia Praprotnik, Faith Cardenas and Hannah Esparza all also raced in the 200.
