Frankie Ferrari took home first team honors while sophomore guard
Charles Minlend earned second team accolades.
Gonzaga swept the individual awards with Rui Hachimura earning Player of the Year honors, Brandon Clarke won both the Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year and Mark Few earned Coach of the Year.
For Ferrari, this is his second consecutive First Team All-WCC Honor. He becomes the first player to earn first team honors in back-to-back years since Cole Dickerson did it in 2014 and '15. The Burlingame, Calif., native is averaging 14.8 points per game, while shooting 43.4 percent from the field. In WCC action he was even better, averaging 16.1 points per contest while shooting 44.9 percent from the field and 46.5 percent from 3-point range. For the second-consecutive year, Ferrari has scored 400 or more points and dished out 150 or more assists. He joins USF Hall of Famers Orlando Smart and Chubby Cox as the only players in USF history to accomplish that feat. Against Santa Clara two weeks ago, he became the 36
th player in USF history to score 1,000 career points.
Minlend's second team honors is the second all-conference accolade of his career. He was named to the All-Freshman team in 2016-17. The second team honor is the culmination of a triumphant return to the hardwood for the Concord, N.C. native. This season, Minlend averaged 14.5 points per contest. He was a consistent threat all season scoring in double figures 25 times this season, including a stretch of 21-straight. He had a habit of coming up big in the biggest games like when he scored 22 in the win over Saint Mary's.
USF (21-9, 9-7 WCC) travels to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas for the West Coast Conference Tournament. They will take on the winner of LMU vs. Pepperdine/Pacific on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN2.
