SAN BRUNO, Calif. — San Francisco women's basketball senior guard
Shannon Powell was named to the 2019 All-West Coast Conference Second Team Tuesday after performing as one of the conference's best all-around players all season long.

The 5-foot, 6-inch senior from El Paso, Texas, led the Dons (6-23, 2-16 WCC) in nearly every statistical category in 2018-19, including points (15.6 per game), rebounds (5.7 per game), assists (3.4 per game) and steals (61 total, 2.1 per game).

At the end of the regular season, Powell stood as one of just four players in the conference ranked among the top-20 in scoring and rebounding, and the top-15 in assists and steals. Powell finished the 29-game regular season fifth in the WCC in scoring, fourth in steals, 13th in assists and 17th in rebounding. The other three players – Shaylee Gonzales of BYU, Valerie Higgins of Pacific and Barbara Sitanggan of Pepperdine – all received all-WCC honors, and in the case of Gonzales and Higgins, won Newcomer and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, putting Powell in elite company.

Powell and the Dons begin play as the No. 9 seed at the 2019 University Credit Union WCC Championship Tournament in Las Vegas at noon on Thursday against No. 8 seed Portland. Fans can find all live coverage links and tournament information on USFDons.com.

Pepperdine senior forward Yasmine Robinson-Bacote was named the WCC Player of the Year after a season that saw her lead the conference in scoring by the largest margin in three years while captaining the Waves to their best conference finish since the 2010-11 season. Pacific's Higgins was named the Defensive Player of the Year, BYU's Gonzales was named the Newcomer of the Year and Gonzaga's Lisa Fortier was named the Coach of the Year.

All four individual awards - along with the All-West Coast Conference Teams and the All-Freshman Team - were voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.
