AZUSA, Calif. — Several members of the University of San Francisco men's and women's track teams made a trip to Southern California this week and made the most of it, posting numerous NCAA West Regional qualifying times and personal bests at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University.
The 1,500 meters was a strong event for the Dons on Friday. Dana Klein ran a lifetime best of 4 minutes, 19.89 seconds in the invitational section of the event. She finished 22nd out of more than 160 entrants, and her time stands as the fourth-best all-time mark in the 1,500 for a USF Don.
Hugh Nicklason was only two seconds off of his own program record in the men's 1,500. He ran 3:44.79 and finished 32nd in the invitational section of the event. Megan Davies also ran in the women's 1,500, posting a season best of 4:29.91. Scott Halsted turned in a time of 3:51.77 on the men's side.
Chris Olley and Jack Rowe both ran excellent 5,000-meter races on Thursday night. Olley set another personal best in the event this season by running 13:54.01 in the first heat of the night. Rowe also set a new lifetime best while finishing third in his heat with a time of 13:54.99.
The women's team next competes at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, starting on Thursday and running through April 27. The men will next compete at the always-fast Portland Twilight meet on May 3.
