TRK | Dons Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Accolades

NEW ORLEANS — Both the University of San Francisco men's and women's track teams, as well as five individual student-athletes, received USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors Monday when the organization announced its annual academic recognitions. The awards cap a school year in which both cross country programs also earned USTFCCCA All-Academic distinction in February.

The USF men (3.49 cumulative Grade Point Average) and USF women (3.29 GPA) were among 366 NCAA Division I programs across the country named All-Academic by the USTFCCCA. The men posted the fifth-highest GPA out of 139 men's programs honored. The two Dons programs piggybacked on their cross country all-academic team awards from the fall to make it a clean sweep in 2018-19, head coach Pat McCurry's first at the helm.

Individually, Chris Olley (3.89 GPA in Data Science), Hugh Nicklason (3.86 cumulative GPA in International Studies), and Jack Rowe (3.81 GPA in Sports Management) were part of a group of 583 men who earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. Dana Klein (3.94 GPA in psychology) and Sadi Henderson (3.65 GPA in Psychology) represented the Dons in a group of 902 women who earned individual recognition.

Nicklason (1,500 meters), Olley (5,000), and Rowe (5,000, 10,000) all qualified for and participated in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Meet in Sacramento, Calif., in May. Henderson (800) and Klein (1,500) both advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Austin, Texas, in June.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have participated in any round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds). In order to receive an academic team award, teams must post a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00.
