SAN MATEO, Calif. – For the second consecutive week, University of San Francisco women's basketball player
Ioanna Krimili has earned a conference distinction. This week, the native of Heraklion, Greece takes home both the WCC UCU Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors as announced by the conference office Monday morning.
Krimili was the guiding force behind the Dons 2-0 week, which included wins over Cal on the road and a double overtime thriller against Fresno State at home. For the week, Krimili averaged 24.0 points per game, while shooting 42.4% from the field and 40% from 3-point range.
Against the Golden Bears, Krimili finished with 26 points to lead all scorers, giving the Dons their first win over Cal since 2001 and first win against a Pac-12 school in 13 years. In the win over the Bears she scored 15 of her 26 points in the fourth quarter, staunching the Bears' comeback bid.
She followed that up with another solid performance against Fresno State, scoring 22 points.
Her efforts on the court also earned her "High Major Player of the Week" honors from CollegeSportsMadness.com.
For the year, Krimili is averaging 24.3 points per game, which ranks 16
th in the nation, second among all freshmen. She is shooting 51.9 percent from the field and 57.6 percent from 3-point range. Krimili is averaging 4.75 made 3-point field goals per contest, which is tied for second most in the nation.
The Dons return to action on Friday when they host William Jessup. That game is slated for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
