Behind the Mask | Dons Spotlight on Mikayla Williams

SAN FRANCISCO — A higher level of competition, and not a single thing has changed.

University of San Francisco women's basketball graduate transfer Mikayla Williams has played unfazed this season, easily transferring her game from the NCAA Division II level to Division I as a leader for the Dons and one of the best players in the West Coast Conference this season.

In this week's spotlight on Mikayla, featured in the latest episode of USF's cable television show "Behind the Mask," she talks about her playing experience at Division II powerhouse UC San Diego, growing up in a military family and living in Canada, and her future goals in basketball and in life.

Williams was a consensus All-American last season for the Tritons. She also took home the Division II Conference Commissioners Association's West Region Player of the Year award, the California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Year, the CCAA Tournament MVP, and was named to the all-CCAA first team and the CCAA All-Tournament team.

This year for the Dons, she's established herself as a top-10 scorer (6th, 15.0 points per game) and rebounder (t-2nd, 9.0) in the WCC. She's posted eight double-doubles and has had three 20-point games, including twice scoring a season-high 29 points, most recently in an overtime victory on the road at Santa Clara to get the Dons their first conference win of the season.

This week, Williams and the Dons return home to host Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount on The Hilltop. The Waves visit at 5 p.m. Thursday, and the Lions come to War Memorial at the Sobrato Center at 2 p.m. Saturday.
