Dons From Distance | Catching Up With Raushan Gultekin

SAN FRANCISCO – Basketball has taken Raushan Gultekin all over the globe.  Born in Turkey, she grew up in Lund, Sweden, attended Salt Lake Community College, and lettered twice for the Dons, graduating in 2017.

In this episode of Dons From Distance Director of Creative Video, Katie Morgan, reconnected with the former guard who played for USF in 2015-16 and 16-17.  A winner at every level, her teams went a combined 92-39 in her collegiate career.

The two discuss her mentor, former coach Betsey Specketer, who saw Gultekin reach her full potential at Salt Lake CC, earning NJCAA Third Team All-American honors prior to transferring to the Hilltop.

They also discuss her hidden talents. Gultekin has a tremendous voice and actually sang the national anthem on senior night her senior season. They also delve into her close relationship with her sister Maria, who is a professional player in Turkey and a member of the Swedish national team.

Raushan and Maria created a skills camp in Lund. Gultekin details how her bond with her sister was started due to their mutual interest in basketball and how Maria helped pave the way for Raushan to let basketball take her abroad.
