SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco's total department GPA has once again been topped. The Dons finished the fall semester with a program-best 3.62 grade point average. USF had 247 student athletes achieve a 3.0 GPA or higher, 193 students with a 3.5 or higher, and an additional 57 earned a perfect 4.0.
The women's teams posted a GPA of 3.64 with the men's teams recording a GPA of 3.60. Every program earned a team grade point average of 3.5 or higher – another first.
"To say I am impressed with the efforts and accomplishments of our students is an understatement," said Director of Athletics
Joan McDermott. "This year has been a challenge for everyone, and especially for our student-athletes. It would have been easy to give in to the distractions that surrounded them. Instead, they doubled down on their efforts and followed up a tremendous spring academic report with an even stronger fall. Ninety-five percent of our students achieved a 3.0 or higher, a figure that speaks for itself. I am so incredibly proud of our Dons, as well as the coaches and administrators, who have helped our student-athletes achieve this unprecedented level of success in the classroom."
The 3.62 grade point average eclipses the previous high of 3.56 set in the spring – which bested the previous high of 3.45 set in the spring of 2018. Fall 2020 marks five-straight semesters in which the department posted a GPA north of 3.30.
USF finished spring 2020 semester with a GPA of 3.56 and had 216 student-athletes earning a 3.0 or higher.
