Men's Soccer Continues Conference Play at Pacific, San Diego

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Hitting the road as to continue conference play, the University of San Francisco men's soccer team (2-8-1, 0-2-1) will travel to Pacific for a midweek matchup with the Tigers (6-5-1, 1-1-1) before heading south to San Diego for a showdown with the Toreros (1-12, 0-3) on Sunday afternoon.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • Last time out, the Dons battled Gonzaga at Negoesco Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 23, but ultimately fell to the Bulldogs, 3-2, in overtime. Despite the loss, Nonso Adimabua tallied his fifth goal of the season while Shayan Charalaghi also logged his third goal of the year in the second half.
  • Heading into Wednesday, Adimabua currently ranks third in the WCC in goals (5), tied for third in shots (29) and fourth in total points (10).
  • Overall, ten different Dons have logged at least one point this fall for USF, with Adimabua (10) leading the charge followed by Charalaghi (6) and Gabriel Bracken Serra (6) close behid. 
SCOUTING THE TIGERS:
  • In their last time on the pitch, Pacific fell to Saint Mary's, 1-0, on the road in Moraga on Saturday, Oct. 23. Although the Tigers did not pull out the victory, forward Mamoru Kamisasanuki led both teams with four total shots while goalkeeper Eric Cotton recorded three saves in the cage.
  • Individually, Kamisasanuki and teammate Matthias Saether are currently tied for third in the conference in assists (4) while Cotton ranks second in the WCC in total saves (49).
  • As a team, Pacific is tied for fourth in total goals (17) while also placing fourth in assists (15) and total points (49). Notably, the Tigers also rank second in shot percentage (.129) and total saves (50).
SCOUTING THE TOREROS:
  • Last Saturday, San Diego fell to Santa Clara on the road at Stevens Stadium, 3-2, in a hard fought match. Despite dropping the contest, Nicklas Clausen continued to impress as his fifth and sixth goals of the season against the Broncos, marking the second time this season he has tallied a brace this season.
  • Proving to be one of the top offensive talents across the conference, Clausen currently ranks second in the WCC in goals (6) and total points (13) heading into competition this week. Nationally, he also ranks 40th in the NCAA with 0.55 goals per game.
  • Starting with a matchup against LMU on Thursday, the Toreros will open a three-match this week as they will face off against the Lions to begin followed by contests against USF and Pacific.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Since the Tigers reinstated their men's soccer program in 2014, USF holds a 5-3 record against Pacific, which includes a current two match win streak over UOP. In their last meeting, the Dons downed the Tigers, 1-0, at home on Mar. 21, 2021.
  • Dating back to Oct. 2005, USF currently holds a 6-8-1 record against San Diego, with their last win over the Toreros coming in a 2-1 victory at Negoesco Stadium on Oct. 7, 2018.
