SAN MATEO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference announced this morning that USF forward
Claudia Langarita was selected as the WCC Freshman of the Week after her impressive showing to end non-conference play.
Langarita and the Dons went on the road to take on two undefeated teams as the freshman from Barcelona preceded to set new career-highs in points back-to-back games, totaling 14 against Colorado before posting 17 points against Tulsa in the win. In both games last week, Claudia averaged 15.5 points per game on an outstanding 67 percent shooting from the field, while playing an average of 21.5 minutes per contest.
Coming off the bench to begin in her collegiate career, Langarita has established herself as one of the top front court scorers in the conference. Shooting an extremely efficient 6-for-8 against CU, Langartia went 4-for-7 from the field against Tulsa and was perfect in both games from behind-the-arc, making both three-point field goals she attempted. Against The Golden Hurricane, Langarita also nailed seven of her eight attempts from the free throw line to lead USF in scoring as they knocked off previously unbeaten Tulsa.

USF is set to begin conference play later this week with a road trip to Spokane on Dec. 29 to take on the reigning WCC champion Gonzaga Bulldogs before returning home for the first time in five weeks for a New Year's Day matinee against the Santa Clara Broncos.
