WGOLF | Dons Finish Sixth at Season-Opening Gunrock Invite

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The University of San Francisco women's golf team tied or bested half the field Tuesday in the final round of the Gunrock Invitational, earning a sixth-place finish at the season-opening tournament hosted by UC Davis at Del Paso Country Club.
San Francisco posted a four-over team total of 292 Tuesday to finish the tournament with a total score of 873 – nine strokes better than seventh-place Boise State. Annika Borrelli was the Dons' top individual, shooting a two-under 70 in the third round to total 213 for the tournament and finished tied for 11th.
"I'm extremely proud of this team and how we came out of a year-long hiatus to play solid golf and finish sixth," said San Francisco head coach Sara Doell. "Annika had a great tournament and led us wire-to-wire. Finishing 11th in this field is impressive."
Toni Sottile shot an even-par 72 Tuesday to finish with a three-round score of 218 and tie for 23rd. Joan Soewondo gave the Dons three players in the top-30 by finishing 30th with a total score of 220. Pearl Rojanapeansatith was USF's fourth scorer, placing 44th with a 226 score for the tournament. Hannah Zeman tied for 45th, one stroke behind Rojanapeansatith with a 227 total score.
Stanford won the team title by 14 strokes, posting a total score of 838. Individual medalist honors went to Stanford's Rachel Heck, who shot 11-under par for the tournament.
"We look forward to representing next week in our home event where we host with San Jose State at the Meadow Club."
San Francisco will co-host the prestigious Julie Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational starting Monday at the Meadow Club in Fairfax.
