BANDON, Ore. – The University of San Francisco men's golf absolutely destroyed the field at the Bandon Dunes Championship. USF shot a 5-under 279 for the day, the low round turned in by a team, and finished the tournament with an astounding 16-under 836 (274-283-279) on Tuesday at Bandon Dunes Golf Course.
"What a phenomenal week," said head coach Jack Kennedy. "Another great team effort where everyone contributed. We obviously got off to a good start this week but really made an effort to keep the pedal down and make a statement. We have only scratched the surface of how good we can be this year. It will be scary when all five guys click on the same day."
It is not known when the Dons last won back-to-back tournaments but it hasn't happened in the last 15 years. It is the first time since the 2019 WCC Championships that the Dons have finished better than 10-under for a tournament.
USF had three finish in the top-10 with Christoffer Palsson and Soren Lind finishing tied for second at 5-under. Matthew Anderson finished tied for eighth.
Lind finished the final round with a 2-under 69 giving him a three-day score of 208 (67-72-69). The Dons' fourth year had a tremendous back-nine carding five birdies. He had six total for the round and 13 for the tournament. The 13 birdies is tied with Palsson and Anderson for second most in the tournament.
Palsson had a solid round, shooting an even par 71. He was one over on the front thanks to bogeys one and six. After the bogey on six he locked in, carding 10-straight pars before a birdie on 17 to finish even.
Matthew Anderson ended his climb on the leaderboard in a tie at seventh. He began the tournament tied for 31st and steadily moved up, giving him his fourth-career top-10 finish. Anderson finished the tournament shooting a 1-under 70. After 54 holes, Anderson was 3-under at 210 (72-68-70).
Tim Widing finished tied for 19th with a 4-over 217 (68-75-75). Toby Briggs had his best round of the tournament to finish tied for 28th with a 6-over 219 (77-73-69). Alex Chin competed as an individual and finished tied for 39th with an 8-over 221 (76-69-76).
The individual medalist was Fresno State's Tommy Stephenson who shot an 8-under 205 (70-65-70). Pac-12 schools Utah and Oregon finished second as a team at 5-over for the tournament. Other notable finishes, No. 23 Stanford was 11-over as a team.
