TRK | Dons Excel in the Classroom, Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS – The University of San Francisco men's and women's track and field team have enjoyed unparalleled success on and off the field of competition this spring. Both programs added to their accolades when both were named to the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track & Field All-Academic Team as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday.
 
The men finished with the top grade point average among all Division I teams with a team GPA of 3.74.  The women also cracked the top-10, finishing with the 10th highest GPA, a 3.70. Under the guidance of first year head coach Tim Riley, the Dons also had four members of the women's team, Baneet Baines, Eve Jensen, Aoibhe Richards, and McKenzie Yanek, earn individual All-Academic Athlete awards from the USTFCCCA.
 
To qualify for the All-Academic Team, a program must have a cumulative GPA above 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for all student-athletes on the institution's NCAA squad list for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track and Field.
 
The USF men had six student-athletes with a GPA north of 3.5, with Caleb Haugland toping the Dons with a cumulative GPA of 3.94. The women finished spring with 19 of its 22 student-athletes achieving a GPA above 3.5.
 
To be named to the All-Academic Athlete list, a student-athlete needs a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and have completed at least two semesters at the institution.
 
Baines, a communications major, boasts a GPA of 3.92. Jensen is a kinesiology major with a 3.64 GPA. Richards, a graduate student in USF's public health program, sports a 3.97 GPA. Yanek, a psychology major, sports a 3.71 GPA.
