SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco men's basketball team is pleased to announce its 2021-22 non-conference schedule. The Dons, under the leadership of third year head coach
Todd Golden, will play 14 games in their non-conference slate, eight of which will take place at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center. USF will have an open date to add a game.
The schedule features a diverse field of teams from across the country. The Dons will square off against representatives of the Northeast Conference, SWAC, A10, Mountain West, and Pac-12, among others. This year's schedule also features some familiar opponents. The busy non-conference slate will see USF play eight games in the first 17 days of the season.
"I am really excited about the non-conference schedule we built," said Golden. "It's a challenging task to fit 14 or 15 games into about 40 days, but Coach (Jonathan) Safir did a really nice job leading the charge. We have some fantastic home games, hosting the likes of UNLV, Fresno State, and Nevada. We have tough games in Phoenix against Grand Canyon at Suns Arena and Arizona State the next day. With this non-conference schedule, we will be well-prepared for WCC play."
USF opens the year at the newly renovated War Memorial at the Sobrato Center on Tuesday, Nov. 9 when LIU comes to the Hilltop. It will be the fourth all-time matchup between the Dons and Sharks: last time out USF defeated the then-named Blackbirds in Seaside, Calif.
On Thursday, Nov. 11 three time SWAC regular season champion Prairie View A&M visits USF. Two days later, USF will battle Davidson on Saturday, Nov. 13, with the site to be determined.
USF will then turn their attention to Samford who make their way to the city by the bay on Monday, Nov. 15. Nevada comes to War Memorial at the Sobrato Center on Thursday, Nov. 18, followed by a home contest against Morgan State on Monday, November 22.
USF will play its first contest away from the friendly confines when they travel to Las Vegas, Nev., to participate in a four-team MTE. The Dons begin the tournament playing Towson on Thanksgiving. This is the second-straight year the Dons have played the Tigers in a neutral site: last season, USF defeated Towson in Uncassville, CT. The following day, USF will take on either Alabama-Birmingham or New Mexico.
The Dons open December with a pair of home games. UNLV comes to San Francisco on Dec. 4. It is the Rebels' first time visiting the Hilltop since the 1971 season, when they were a member of the WCC. The homestand concludes with a contest against Mountain West foe Fresno State on Wednesday, Dec. 8.
USF returns to the road for two games on Dec. 18 and 19. First up is a contest against Grand Canyon, which will be held at Suns Arena in Phoenix. The next day, USF will take on Pac-12 foe Arizona State in Tempe.
The Dons close out their non-conference slate with home contest against Southern Illinois on Wednesday, Dec. 22 and Academy of Art on Tuesday, Dec. 28.
