PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wisc. – Competing in their first race of the 2021-22 season, the University of San Francisco women's triathlon team impressed in Saturday's Central Regional Qualifier as the Dons finished second as a team overall while also placing four student-athletes in the top-20 of the final finish order.
FINAL RESULTS:
- Saturday's race began at 6:30 a.m. PT with a 750-meter swim at Lake Andrea. Following the open-water segment, the Dons embarked on a 20-kilometer draft-legal bike ride around the lake (four laps) before closing the race with a 5-kilometer run on a similar course. All NCAA triathlons feature this sprint distance.
- Finishing behind four-time national champion and perennial powerhouse Arizona State (18), the Dons placed second as a team in the final results with 41 points as a team. Notably, East Tennessee State rounded out the top three with 77 total points.
- Individually, four Dons placed in the top-20 of the final race order: Molly Elliott (4, 1:01:24.7), Gillian Cridge (6, 1:01:54.6), Hannah Ye (13, 1:04:11.5) and Hayley Diemar (16, 1:05:15.5).
- Overall, Katherine Badham (21, 1:06:12.9), Chloe Ramirez (24, 1:06:37.6) and Noga Gottlieb (27, 1:07:13.5) also delivered strong peformances for USF in their first race of the season.
CATCHING UP WITH COACH KEHR:
"We had a great showing at the race today. This was our first race since starting the program in which we had a full team. It was a good opportunity to see what we can work on for the rest of the season and in preparation for the NCAA Championship. The entire team is very pleased and ready to continue working."
UP NEXT:
Following a scrimmage on Saturday, Sept. 18, the Dons will return to action at the Regional Qualifier on Saturday, Oct. 30 in Hurricane, Utah. Shortly thereafter, USF will travel to Tempe, Ariz. for the USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championship.
