SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The University of San Francisco women's basketball program and head coach
Molly Goodenbour officially announced the commitment of 5'11" guard Elle Papahronis of Edmond, Okla. on Friday afternoon.
"We first saw Elle play as a sophomore and immediately loved her toughness, intensity and determination on the basketball court," Goodenbour said. "As we got to know her and her family it became even more apparent that she would be a perfect fit for our program. She's a winner on and off the court and has demonstrated a tremendous work ethic throughout her career. We are absolutely thrilled that she chose USF and can't wait for her to get here."
Known for her tremendous effort and fire she brings to the court, Papahronis is a two-time Defensive Player of the Year in the state of Oklahoma and helped lead her team to the 2021-22 Oklahoma State Championship at North Edmond High School, while playing for her father Pete who serves as the program's head coach. During her championship winning season, Elle averaged 15.3 PPG, 8.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.4 blocks per game showing her all-around and versatile skill set.
"Elle is exactly what our program is all about. Family, toughness and winning," assistant coach
Arthur Moreira said. "She is extremely close to her family, who's very supportive of her, which is the same environment our girls nurture in our program. She is a back-to-back defensive player of the year in Oklahoma and is an extremely resilient and tough player. She can guard 1-5. Elle comes from a winning culture and knows exactly what it takes to win at a high level, having competed against the best players in the country on her way to a final four with her AAU club and winning a state championship at the top division in her home state of Oklahoma. There is no better fit for our program than her."
Competing on the AAU circuit, Elle played for Team Trae Young and reached the Final Four of the Adidas National Tournament where her team fell short against the eventual champions. Papahronis was one of 60 players selected to the Adidas 3SSB All-American Camp, a camp Adidas hosts yearly for the best players in the AAU circuit playing under an Adidas Sponsored Team.
Elle is currently finishing her senior year at North Edmond High School and will graduate in the spring of 2023.
