Women's Basketball Adds Point Guard Paula Tirado

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The University of San Francisco women's basketball program and head coach Molly Goodenbour officially announced the commitment of 5'7" point guard Paula Tirado of Mataro, Spain on Saturday afternoon.

"We have been so fortunate the last few years at USF to have talented and intelligent point guards to lead our team," Goodenbour said. "Paula will help us continue this trend. She is savvy and quick and also has the ability to score the basketball. Playing at a top level club in Spain like Mataro has given her an opportunity to compete against excellent competition and will undoubtedly prepare her well for the WCC. We are excited for her to join us."

A high intelligence player with the ability to set up her teammates and score the basketball herself, Tirado won the 2021 FIBA U16 European Championship with the Spanish National Team and was on the team that finished third in the Spanish National Tournament in 2021-22.

"Paula is an extremely talented point guard that comes with a lot of experience," assistant coach Arthur Moreira said. "She has played for the Spanish National Team and also competes in a strong Women's League in Spain. She has a high IQ, is extremely quick and excels in transition by pushing the ball, scoring and finding her teammates. Paula also takes pride in her ability to disrupt her opponent by pressuring the ball and playing the passing lanes to get deflections. She is a great fit for our style of play."

Tirado was a major contributor for Mataro's women's team that plays in LF2 which is Spain's second professional division. This is the same league that USF alum Rachel Howard used to compete in before her team was promoted to the highest division.
