SEATTLE, Wash. -- With the 2022 cross country regular season in the rear view mirror, the USF Dons men's and women's cross country programs are heading to the Pacific Northwest for the NCAA Cross Country West Regionals at Chambers Creek Regional Park hosted by the University of Washington.
The Dons are back in action for the first time since the USF women came in second place overall at the WCC Championships, with five of the Dons' women student-athletes finishing in the top 20.
Ruby Smee led the way for USF's women's program as she ran a 19:51.1 time while competing in the 6,000 meter run. USF's women's program is currently ranked seventh in the West region according to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association which puts them ahead of fellow WCC programs Portland and Gonzaga.
On the men's side, the Dons were able to finish sixth overall as
Ed Buck put together another strong race in the 8,000 meter run as he finished in 21st place with a time of 22:53.7 two weeks ago. It was a big improvement for the USF men as a unit as the team finished 8th overall in the WCC Championships last season, as well as being a two spot improvement from the preseason poll that saw the Dons picked to finish in eighth place among the conference standings.
