Dons Top Waves to Reach 20 Wins

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Bouncing back at home to notch their twentieth victory of the season, the University of San Francisco men's basketball team (20-6, 7-4) took down Pepperdine (7-19, 1-10) by 44 points, 105-61, at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center on Thursday night as the Dons recorded their largest win over the Waves in program history.
 
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Finding their rhythm right out of the gates, the Dons jumped out to an early 14-2 lead over the Waves through the first four minutes of play, which was capped off from a converted and-one by Jamaree Bouyea.
  • Following another 13-5 run as the midway point of the first half approached, USF stretched their lead to 20, 27-7, after a vicious slam from Yauhen Massalski at 11:29.
  • Exploding for five made three-pointers in the first half, Gabe Stefanini paced the offense for the Dons through the first twenty minutes of action as USF tallied their largest first half point total with a 60-27 lead heading into the locker room.
  • Coming out of the break, San Francisco continued to spread the floor and enjoy success on the offensive end as they extended their advantage to 39 on a basket in the paint from Zane Meeks at the 10:13 mark.
  • Less than two minutes later, Stefanini connected on his season-high sixth triple of the night at 9:04 to push USF's lead to 40, 89-49.
  • Cruising to victory to grab their thirteenth home victory of the year, the Dons passed the century mark for the second time this season as USF downed Pepperdine, 105-61 to improve to 20-6 overall and 7-4 in conference play.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Finishing with a team-high 24 points, Khalil Shabazz shot 9-of-18 from the field and 5-of-9 from deep along with 4 steals, 4 rebounds and 1 assist in 27 minutes of action.
  • Dominating down low, Yauhen Massalski logged his seventh consecutive double-double and eleventh overall this season with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists on 5-of-9 from the floor in an efficient 24 minutes played.
  • For Stefanini, the junior tallied 21 points on 7-of-15 from two and 6-of-13 from three while also tallying 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 1 steal.
  • As a team, USF led Pepperdine in points in the paint (42-16), points off turnovers (27-12), second chance points (21-4), fast break points (18-7) and bench points (26-17).
