Ioanna Krimili, Kennedy Dickie and Claudia Langarita Win All-Conference Honors
3/2/2022 11:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference officially announced the 2021-22 Women's Basketball All-Conference Honors on Wednesday morning.
USF has three representatives on this year's awards as Ioanna Krimili makes her second consecutive All-WCC First Team, Kennedy Dickie was named to the conference's All-WCC Second Team and finally Claudia Langarita was one of five to make the WCC's All-Freshman squad.
All five major individual awards -- along with the All-West Coast Conference Teams and All-Freshman Team -- were voted on solely by the league's 10 head coaches.
BYU guard Shaylee Gonzales won her second consecutive Player of the Year award, while her head coach Jeff Judkins took home the Coach of the Year award for the second year in a row after leading the Cougars to the WCC regular season title. San Diego's Jordyn Edwards was picked as the WCC's Defensive Player of the Year, while Yvonne Ejim of Gonzaga won the Sixth Woman of the Year award. Rounding out the individual winners is Saint Mary's Ali Bamberger who was selected as the Newcomer of the Year.
Brigham Young led the way with three First-Team selections with Gonzales, Lauren Gustin and Paisley Harding. Five of the 10 members of the All-WCC First Team were All-Conference preseason selections.
Krimili has continued her record-breaking beginning to her USF career with her second first team All-WCC selection in her second full season playing for the Dons. The Heraklion, Greece led the WCC by scoring 19.6 PPG on 45% shooting to go along with 4.2 rebounds per game and dished out 3.0 assists in her award-winning season. Ioanna reached a milestone this season at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center as she scored her 1,000th point in USF's victory over Pepperdine.
Transferring into the program ahead of the season, Dickie took no time showing off her talents on the Hilltop as she played in all 30 games and started in 16 of them averaging 9.2 points and led them team 6.8 rebounds per game. Joining USF after two seasons at Eastern Washington, Kennedy was a huge part of the team's second half surge after being inserted into the starting lineup. She led her team with 40 steals this season and showed her ability to stretch the floor knocking down 42 three point shots this season.
Langarita was the Dons lone freshman representative as the Barcelona native was third on the team with 10.5 PPG and shot a team-best 49% from the field to begin her college career. Playing in all 30 regular season games and making seven starts for the Dons, Claudia showed tremendous skills on the offensive side of the ball as she shot 50% from the field and 33% from three during conference play to help USF to a 10-8 WCC record.
With the conclusion of the regular season, WCC teams now head to Las Vegas to compete in the 2022 UCU West Coast Conference Basketball Tournament. Action tips off Thursday, March 3 at the Orleans Arena. This year is the 14th WCC Championship in Las Vegas.
