PORTLAND, Ore. -- The USF Dons outdoor track and field were back in action Saturday afternoon as they ventured to Lewis and Clark College in the Pacific Northwest for the 2022 Portland Twilight at Griswold Stadium.
Battling adverse conditions the Dons were able to receive a few standout performances, including a new personal best from Baneet Bains in the steeplechase as she was able to shave off nine seconds from her previous best mark heading into Saturday's meet. Gabriella Mace once again was able to piece together a first place finish racing in the 400 meter hurdles, while Ruby Smee, Abby Pradere, Julia Morales and Whitney Hessler each finished in the top eight or better for their individual races.
RESULTS:
Women's 400m Hurdles:
1. Gabriella Mace 1:00.71
Women's 800m:
6. Julia Morales 2:11
8. Whitney Hessler 2:13.63
Women's 1,500m:
6. Ruby Smee 4:23.85
8. Abby Pradere 4:24.51
Women's 3,000m Steeplechase:
3. Baneet Bains 10:19.31
CATCHING UP WITH COACH RILEY:
"We had some exciting racing today in Portland under challenging conditions. It's the time of the year where racing matters and not just running time trials. I was very happy with Ruby and Abby's execution of their 1,500m while Whit and Julia were right there as well. The highlight of the evening was Baneet's big race in the steeplechase where she knocked nine seconds off her personal best and will surely be a regional qualifier."
