SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball program and head coach
Diogo Silva officially announced their schedule for the upcoming 2022 season on Wednesday morning.
"I am very excited and confident that we have improved this offseason and will turn things around this year," said Silva. "Trusting the process is key and everyone has been putting forth the necessary effort to have an extremely competitive team. Our focus is on the development of people/players as we align these goals with the team's values, which will ultimately allow us to have a successful season."
USF will welcome seven new student-athletes to the Hilltop this fall as the Dons prepare for another strong season in the WCC:
Claire Crijns (Maastrich, Netherlands),
Branson Lennon (Los Angeles, Calif.),
Isadora Nicolai (Belo Horizante, Brazil,
Lindsay Oldendorf (Lockport, Ill.),
Maria Petkova (Dobrich, Bulgaria),
Anna Petrova (Moscow, Russia) and
Abby Wadas (McKinney, Texas).
Additionally, USF will return 10 student-athletes from the 2021 team, including 2020-21 All-WCC Honorable Mention
Aylen Ayub, who is currently competing for the Argentinian national team. Notably,
Shyia Richardson, who led the team with 211 total kills last year, is set to be back in the mix while classmate
Letizia Aquilino, who impressed with a team-leading 240 digs last fall, will also line up for the green and gold. Overall, the Dons will contend at the net as
Orsula Staka, who led USF with 47.0 blocks last season, will also return.
Silva and his staff, which includes assistant coaches
Emily Cook and
Noah Casaquit, all enter their second year on the Hilltop in 2022. This spring, Cook was named as one of the AVCA's 30 Under Thirty Recipients, which honors the top up-and-coming beach volleyball coaches at all levels of the sport.
In total, USF is set to compete in 29 total matches – 18 conference matches, 11 non-conference matches, 18 road matches, 11 home matches.
