SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Playing their second match in as many days, the University of San Francisco volleyball team (7-1) returned to their winning ways with a dominant 3-0 victory over the Penn Quakers (1-5) on Satuday afternoon at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Saturday's match began with Penn starting off strong with a quick 5-1 lead before the Dons responded with a run of their own. USF went on take eight of the next nine points thanks to key kills from Shyia Richardson and Claire Crijns as they went on to take the first set by a score of 25-14.
- The Dons carried the momentum into the second set by taking an early 9-5 lead,. Furthering their advantage as the match played on, Sara Denham rattled off three consecutive service aces followed consecutive kills from Kellan Martins and Lindsay Oldendorf to close out the set, 25-20.
- Finishing the match on a high note, USF left no doubt in the third set as they continued to fire on all cylinders offensively down the stretch. Securing the final point for their seventh victory of the year, Jessica Eanes shut the door on the Quakers off of an assist from Branson Lennon as the Dons went on to secure the 25-21 set victory and a 3-0 sweep of Penn. Notably, this win marked USF's third sweep in seven matches so far this season.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Lana Kutakhina was a huge part of the USF offense on Saturday as the outside hitter tied for the team lead with six kills. Additionally, Crijns continued her strong start to the season on Saturday as she also recorded six kills and an ace for USF while Denham set a new career-high with four total service aces.
- Up front, Oldendorf and Orsula Staka impressed by each recording five kills and two blocks apiece to guide the Dons to victory.
- As a team, USF dominated across the board as they led Penn in kills (37-31), aces (11-1), blocks (6-3), assists (34-30) and digs (39-37).

UP NEXT:
USF will now head back on the road as they will spend the next weekend across the state of Colorado. Overall, the Dons will play a neutral site matchup with UC San Diego on Friday, Sept. 16 at 10:00 am followed by a road match at Denver at 5:00 pm. On Saturday, Sept. 17, USF will make head west to Colorado Springs as the Dons will battle Air Force at 11:00 am. Live statistics for all three matches will be available via the
