SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Hosting a tournament in San Francisco for the first time since 2018-19, the University of San Francisco men's golf team started off their season on a positive note as the Dons placed fifth overall as a team while placing three individuals inside of the top 20 at the USF Intercollegiate at Olympic Club (Lake Course).
TOURNAMENT RESULTS:
- Shining in his debut in the green and gold, freshman Jakob Melin led the way for the Dons as he tied for eighth overall with a 2-under-211. Shooting rounds of 68-72-71, the Swede placed as USF's top finisher after shooting +4 on Par 3's, -2 on Par 4's and -4 on Par 5's. Impressively, he also collected 32 pars and tallied 13 birdies, the second highest in the tournament by an individual.
- Picking up where he left off, Matthew Anderson tied for twelfth overall with a 1-over-214, just three strokes back of Melin. Returning to the Hilltop for his graduate year, Anderson shot rounds of 72-72-70 to go along with 32 pars and 11 birdies.
- Turning heads in his first tournament at USF, former junior college All-American Ben Partridge tied for seventeenth overall by recording a 2-over-215 in addition to 35 pars and 9 birdies.
- Rounding out the lineup, Jackson Rothwell tied for thirty-first in his first appearance as a Don with a 7-over-228 while Renato Naula also tied for fifty-first in his first action with San Francisco.
- Competing individually, Brian Park tied for forthy-third (12-over-225), Paramdeep Sodhi tied for fifty-fifth (17-over-230) and Harry Brown tied for fifty-seventh (19-over-232).
UP NEXT:
USF will make the trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico next weekend for the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at The Championship Course at UNM. Hosted by the New Mexico Lobos on Sept. 23 and 24, the Dons will play in this tournament before heading east to Potomac, Maryland for the Howard/USF Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 26 and 27.
