Dons Sign Explosive Guard Tyrone Riley

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Head coach Chris Gerlufsen and the University of San Francisco men's basketball program announced the signing of guard Tyrone Riley of Downey, Calif. on Thursday afternoon.
"We are thrilled to announce the signing of Tyrone Riley to the University of San Francisco," said Gerlufsen. "Tyrone is an explosive guard who can score the ball and impact the game in a variety of ways. His high school basketball accolades speak to his talent and work ethic. His father, Tyrone Riley Sr., was a great Don and we are very excited to continue the family's legacy here on the Hilltop!"
With a lengthy 6'6" frame Riley is a dynamic guard from St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy.
This past season, Riley was named the D3AA Player of the Year while leading St. Pius X-St. Matthias to the CIF-SS Division 3AA boys basketball championship in February. Additionally, he was honored with the prestigious Wooden Award as the CIF-SS D3 Player of the Year in 2022-23. Overall, the guard averaged 25.6 points, 12.5 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.5 steals per game. Notably, St. Pius finished with a 30-5 overall record last season.
One year prior, Riley was also named the Camino Real League MVP.
Riley and his family also have previous ties to the Hilltop as his father Tyrone Sr. suited up for the San Francisco men's basketball team from 2003-2005. Appearing in 60 total games for the Dons and starting in 57 of them, Riley's father averaged 13.6 points per game in his two years in the green and gold as he ranks twelfth all-time in program history in three-point percentage (.380/92-242).
Riley joins James O'Donnell (Sydney, Australia/Centre of Excellence) as the second signee for San Francisco's 2024 recruiting class.
