Dons Fall at Hawaii to Open Bank of Hawaii Classic

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team (1-3) dropped its first game of the Bank of Hawaii Classic Friday afternoon, falling to Hawaii (1-2), 65-51, at SimpliFi Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • San Francisco fell behind in the early goings as Hawaii grabbed a 5-0 lead in the first two minutes of the contest. The Dons quickly responded, using a 7-0 run sparked by back-to-back Cami Fulcher three-point baskets and a Debora dos Santos layup to give the Dons a 7-5 advantage.
  • The Rainbow Wahine regained the lead shortly after and expanded their advantage to 13-7 at the 2:54 mark of the opening quarter.
  • Refusing to back down, the Dons cut the deficit to two at the end of the first quarter, using a 5-1 run.
  • Hawaii extended its lead to start the second quarter and led by eight, 26-18, at the 2:37 mark of the period. San Francisco responded with a 9-3 run, with points coming from Jasmine Gayles and Seynabou Thiam to close the half down two, 29-27.
  • The Rainbow Wahine outscored the Dons in the third quarter, 16-8, and led 45-35 through 30 minutes of play.
  • San Francisco began to chip away at the double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter, cutting the Hawaii advantage to nine, 58-49 at the 4:10 mark. However, The Rainbow Wahine regained momentum and finished the game on a 7-2 run to solidify the win.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Gayles led the team in scoring for the fourth straight game, recording 16 in 30 minutes of work.
  • Dos Santos also reached double figures, scoring 11 points on 41.7 percent (five-for-12) shooting. The red-shirt junior forward also connected for her first career three-point basket, knocking it down in the fourth quarter.
  • Fulcher scored eight points and led the team in three-point baskets with two.

San Francisco returns to action at 4:30 p.m. PT on Sunday, Nov. 19, when it takes on Cal State Fullerton in the final game of the Bank of Hawaii Classic at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
