SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference announced on Tuesday afternoon that
Malik Thomas has been named the WCC Player of the Week for men's basketball.
Â
Finding his groove over the last few weeks, Thomas came up in a big way for the Dons this week as he helped guide San Francisco to two dominant wins over Northern Arizona and Fresno State.Â
Â
On Wednesday, Dec. 20, the Southern California transfer finished with a then career-high 19 points in 24 minutes on 7-of-10 from the floor in a 91-51 victory over Northern Arizona. Notably, he knocked down a career-high five three-pointers on seven attempts from beyond-the-arc as he also made his first start at the collegiate level against the Lumberjacks.Â
Â
Less than 48 hours later, the explosive guard followed this performance by recording a new career-high for the second straight game as he finished with 22 points in 31 minutes on 8-of-12 from the field in a 77-57 win over Fresno State. Impressively, he shot 4-of-6 from distance for USF in addition to converting on both of his free throws.Â
Â
Overall, he also added six rebounds, one assist and one steal across the two games.
Â
Notably, this marks the second weekly WCC honor by a Don this season as
Ryan Beasley was previously tabbed WCC Freshman of the Week on Nov. 27.
