USF Downs San Diego Following Krimili's Tremendous Night

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Returning home for the final two regular season games at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center, the USF Dons women's basketball team (17-10, 7-8) picked up the 66-55 win over the San Diego Toreros to secure the series sweep on Thursday night.

Ioanna Krimili led the way for her team against USD as she scored 31 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the field while knocking down seven three-point shots in the victory. Kennedy Dickie was also able to put together a tremendous night for her team as she scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to secure yet another double-double for her team.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Both defenses came to work as the Dons didn't score the first bucket of the game until Jessica McDowell-White canned a three two and a half minutes into the game. USF thrived at the free throw line in the opening 10 minutes going a perfect 7-of-7 from the field as a unit with Amalie Langer, Loren Christie and Amy Baum all knocking down multiple free throws while Kennedy Dickie converted on an and-one. San Diego split a pair of free throws late in the quarter as USF held a 14-10 lead after one.
  • The Dons started the second quarter quickly as Baum raced to the bucket and scored a lay up to push USF's lead to six before the Toreros even the score. USF later in the quarter ran off a 10-2 run thanks to baskets from Christie and Jasmine Gayles that put the Dons ahead 28-20 nearing halftime. Dickie hit a three-point shot for USF's final bucket of the first half as they led 31-25 at halftime.
  • USD came out shooting the ball well out of the break as they made their first four field goals that cut the Dons' lead down to one point before Krimili went berserk, as she knocked down three long distance shots in a row that pushed the lead to 42-34. The Dons were able to push their lead up to double digits thanks to Gayles converting on an and-one. USF went into the final quarter leading 49-37 with 10 minutes to play.
  • USF got the lead up to 15 early in the fourth quarter as Kia Vaalavirta knocked down consecutive free throws that pushed the Dons' lead to 54-39. Krimili kept rolling as she ran her game total to 31 points on the evening after banking a shot off the glass on a pull up to push the USF lead to 59-43. San Diego attempted to get closer late in the game but were unable to overcome the Dons as they fell 66-55 on Thursday night.
