Shabazz Named to NABC District 9 Second Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The NABC officially released the 2022-23 NABC Division I All-District Teams and District Coaches of the Year on Tuesday morning. The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division I.

For San Francisco, guard Khalil Shabazz earned District 9 Second Team Honors after an impressive final season on the Hilltop.

Notably, this selection marks the third straight year in which a student-athlete from USF has earned NABC honors as Jamaree Bouyea was a two-time recipient (2020-21 + 2021-22) while Yauhen Massalski joined Bouyea on the prestigious list last season.

Capping off his career in the green and gold with a memorable year, Shabazz started and played in all 34 of USF's games this year as he finished in double figures in 24 of the 34 contests. Overall, the Seattle native eclipsed 20+ points 16 times and 30+ points three times. Within the West Coast Conference, Shabazz finished in the top ten in games played (34, first), games started (34, first), three-pointers made (95, first), steals (73), total minutes (1,203, second), made free throws (146, second), free throw percentage (85.9, third), minutes per game (35.4, fourth), total points (65, fourth), points per game (17.8, fourth), field goals made (182, sixth), assists (101, tenth) and defense rebounds (144, tenth). Notably, the versatile guard saved his best for last as he poured in a career-high 38 points, which included a career-high seven three-pointers made, in USF's 93-87 double overtime win against Santa Clara in the quarterfinal round of the 2023 University Credit Union WCC Tournament on Mar. 4.

Historically, Shabazz climbed the leaderboard in many statistical categories over the past few years as he ranks among the all-time greats following his career at USF. Overall, he finishes his career ranked first all-time in program history in three-pointers made (299), three-pointers attempted (858), and field goals attempted (1,486) while also ranking third in steals (236), fourth in total points (1,804) and free-throw percentage (.819), eighth in games played (128), ninth in free throws made (339) and 13th in field goals made (583).
