Women's Basketball Signs Forward Sol Castro

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The University of San Francisco women's basketball program and head coach Molly Goodenbour officially announced the commitment of 6'1" forward Sol Castro from Rio Colorado, Argentina on Saturday morning.

Castro spent the previous three years competing for Robert Morris University in Carnot-Moon, Pennsylvania where she became the first freshman in program history to lead the team in scoring during the 2020-21 season as she was selected to the Horizon League's all-freshman team.

"Sol is going to be a fantastic addition to our team!" Goodenbour said. "We are so excited that she choose USF. She's tough, competitive and hard working that will fit right into our program. She brings energy and enthusiasm very well as a versatile skill set and I know she will make an immediate positive impact."

Starting and competing in all 28 of the Colonials' games during the 2021-22 season, Castro was able to average 8.6 PPG while leading her team in total rebounds (152) and in blocks (17). A native of Aregentina, Sol represented her home country at the U18, U19 and Senior levels during her international prep career. She helped Argentina capture the bronze medal at the 2018 FIBA U18 Americas Championships where she averaged 7.0 PPG, 9.2 rebounds per game and 1.5 assists in the tournament.
