Dons Ink Explosive Guard Malik Thomas

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Head coach Chris Gerlufsen and the University of San Francisco men's basketball program officially announced the addition of guard Malik Thomas on Wednesday afternoon.

"My staff and I are thrilled to announce the signing of Malik Thomas to our basketball family here at the University of San Francisco," said Gerlufsen. "It was evident early in the recruiting process that Malik would be a great fit for our program. He's a proven winner, has an unbelievable family and possesses tremendous leadership qualities. Malik has great size and skill for his position and will help propel our program forward!"

Coming to the Hilltop after spending two seasons at the University of Southern California (USC), Thomas is a 6'5" guard who can score at all three levels and excels on the defensive end.

Graduating from Damien High School in La Verne, Calif. in 2021, Thomas was rated as a four-star recruit by industry services prior to his commitment to USC. Leaving his mark at Damien, he left the school as the program's all-time leading scorer as he accumulated more than 2,000 total points across his high school career. As a senior, he averaged 22.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game as he was named to the All-CIF Southern Section Open Division Team. For these efforts, Thomas was named the California High School Boys Gatorade Player of the Year in 2020-21. Additionally, Thomas was also named Baseline League MVP, California Junior of the Year (2020), Freshman of the Year (2018) and was a four-time all-league selection. In the classroom, Thomas also was successful as he maintained a 3.1 GPA.

Notably, Thomas joins Junjie "Barry" Wang and Ryan Beasley as the third member of USF's 2023 signing class.
