Women's Basketball Adds Guard Luana Leite

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The University of San Francisco women's basketball program and head coach Molly Goodenbour officially announced the commitment of 5'7" guard Luana Leite from São Paulo, Brazil on Monday afternoon.

Leite comes to the Hilltop after a pair of strong seasons leading the South Georgia Tech Lady Jets as she played in all of her team's 33 games last season while making 31 starts and averaging 10.8 PPG on an impressive 52% field goal percentage.

"Luana will be an excellent addition to our team," Goodenbour said. "She's a winner who's been successful at every step in her career and we are excited for her to join the program. Her versatility and ability to play point guard and wing will be an asset. She's a competitor who is willing to play whatever position is necessary to help the team be successful."

Excelling at not just scoring the ball but also setting up her teammates, Leite averaged 3.2 assists per game for the Lady Jets while also limiting turnovers as she had a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio last season while playing both guard positions. Off the ball, Luana's tremendous shooting ability shined as she shot 43% from beyond the arc last season while averaging three attempts per game.

Receiving recognition for her strong play on the court, Luana was named the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Player of the Week at the end of November after she averaged nine points, six rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals as her team earned a pair of wins during their Thanksgiving basketball classic.
