Women's Soccer Unveils 2023 Schedule

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The University of San Francisco women's soccer program and head coach Jim Millinder have officially announced their schedule for their upcoming 2023 season on Monday morning.

The Dons return to action this fall looking to build off a strong 2022 campaign that saw them finish with an 8-5-6 overall record to go along with a 3-3-3 mark in the West Coast Conference. Ending their season on a high note, USF went unbeaten in their final six matches of the season as they were able to defeat conference foes LMU, San Diego and Saint Mary's.

"Our schedule is very challenging this fall," Millinder said. "It will prepare us for conference play which is always the key. Starting off with four Pac-12 teams at the beginning will certainly give us an idea of where we are at. This team is excited and up for the challenge."

Returning to lead the way for the Dons on the pitch is stellar junior midfielder Marissa Vasquez who was named to the All-WCC First Team after leading her squad in goals and points. Vasquez kicked off her 2022 season off on a high note by securing her first collegiate hat trick on the road against Portland State.

Another key returner for USF will be sophomore forward Lindsey Chau, who played in all 19 games last season including making 16 starts while contributing four goals and assists. Chau's stellar debut campaign concluded with her being named to the All-WCC Freshmen Team as well as being a member of the All-WCC Honorable Mention team.

Joining the fold this season is an eight member student-athlete class that includes one graduate transfer and seven incoming freshmen. Graduate student forward Jackie Koerwitz (Sacramento, Calif.) returns to Northern California after three stellar seasons competing for the Miami Hurricanes in the ACC. The remaining freshmen coming to the Hilltop are: goalkeeper Tinna Magnusdottir (Seltjarnarnes, Iceland), defenders Natalie Drotzmann (Beaverton, Ore.), Kamryn Kaleiohi (Kai, Hawaii), forwards Olivia Lukrofka (Portland, Ore.), Kaitlyn Sasaduesz (Lake Oswego, Ore.) as well as midfielders Isabella Ayau (Kula, Hawaii) and Sydni Yoshida (Kaneohe, Hawaii).

Millinder is entering his 25th overall season as a Division I head coach and his 13th leading the program on the Hilltop. Associate head coach Pinder Nijjar begins his ninth year on the USF staff as well as his sixth serving as the associate head coach. Beginning her second year on staff following her playing career as a Don, Candace Hillegas will once again serve as an assistant coach on Millinder's staff. Volunteer assistant coach Alejandro Munoz also returns for his third season working with the program.

In total, the Dons are scheduled to play 19 matches this season, eight of which encompass WCC play with the remaining 11 as non-conference matchups. USF will begin their 2023 campaign at Negoesco Stadium as they will welcome the Pac-12's Oregon State Beavers to the Hilltop on Thursday, Aug. 17 for a 6:00 p.m. match. The Dons will also open up conference play on their home pitch as they will host Bay Area foe the Saint Mary's Gaels on Saturday, Sept. 30 for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.
