SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – With the start of the 2023 men's soccer season less than 24 hours away, Top Drawer Soccer (TDS) announced their annual Preseason Awards on Wednesday afternoon.
For San Francisco,
Rylan Smith was one of ten student-athletes in the country named to the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Freshman Team for 2023.
Coming to the Hilltop from Littleton, Colo., Smith competed for Real Colorado Academy in the MLS Next League. During his junior year, Smith guided his team to a first-place finish in the Frontier Division as his team also finished as the No. 2 team in the country that season. One year later, Smith signed a professional academy contract with USL Champion Side Colorado Springs Switchbacks. Notably, he played 120 minutes in Colorado Springs' only US Open Cup game.
For the Dons, Smith is set to line up as a defender as he begins his first season in the green and gold. Notably, this marks the second preseason honor for a San Francisco student-athlete as
Max Hamelink was named to the 2023 All-WCC Men's Soccer Preseason Team on Tuesday.
