SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference officially announced the conference schedules for the nine participating institutions on Friday morning.
"Our program is excited about the announcement of our 2023-24 conference schedule," said head coach
Chris Gerlufsen. "The West Coast Conference continues to elevate itself each season and we are looking forward to yet another competitive league slate. Our group is energized and ready for the challenge of playing in some of the best environments in college basketball."
Beginning a few days after the new year, San Francisco will begin their 16-game conference slate on Jan. 4 when they head east to Stockton for a battle at Pacific. Notably, the Dons will wrap up WCC action with two crucial games – home vs. Gonzaga on Feb. 29 and away at Santa Clara on Mar. 2.
Fresh off of their sixth 20+ win season in the last seven years, the San Francisco men's basketball team will return eight letterwinners from last year's team in addition to a new wave of talent. Notably, former top 100 recruits
Mike Sharavjamts and
Malik Thomas joined the mix along with versatile Chinese forward Junjie "Barry" Wang and local phenom
Ryan Beasley. Entering his second year at the helm of the Dons, head coach
Chris Gerlufsen aims to get the green and gold back to March Madness this season. Overall, San Francisco added five Division I transfers and two incoming freshmen this offseason.
Last season, the Dons finished 7-9 in WCC play to tie for fifth in the conference standings. Impressively, USF won their opening round game in the WCC Tournament for the fourth straight season as the green and gold downed Pacific to advance to the semifinal round. Shortly thereafter, San Francisco defeated Santa Clara in double overtime behind a career-high 38 points from
Khalil Shabazz to advance to the semifinal round of the conference tournament for the second straight year.
Notably, San Francisco's matchup at Saint Mary's on Feb. 20 will air live on ESPN. Tip-off times and additional television partners for the 2023-24 season will be announced at a later date.
