Dons Win Second-Straight Match, Sweeps UTRGV at Home

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (5-6) earned its second-straight win, defeating UT Rio Grande Valley, 3-0, Friday evening at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • The Dons jumped out to an early lead over the Vaqueros (6-6) and eased through the first set. With the frame tied at seven, the Dons used a 5-1 scoring run to push the lead four, 12-8, the largest of the frame to that point.
  • Adding to the lead later in the set, a Kennedy Muckelroy kill and three Vaquero attack errors gave the Dons set point, 24-17. Lindsay Oldendorf later closed out the frame with a sliding kill off an Aylen Ayub assist, 25-18.
  • Multiple scoring runs in the second set helped San Francisco dominate the second set. Scoring five straight points early in the frame with the match tied at six, the Dons forced UTRGV into three errors while Ayub and Maria Petkova accumulated kills during the run, pushing the lead to five, 11-6.
  • Holding a narrow 16-14 advantage later in the set, Muckelroy, Oldendorf, Ayub, and Karolina Nova contributed to a 5-0 run, guiding the Dons to a commanding 21-14 lead.
  • After two straight Vaquero points, the Dons won four of the final seven points to secure the second set, 25-19.
  • In a tightly contested third set, the Dons extended their early lead to 15-10 before the Vaqueros cut the deficit to two, 22-20. Despite a 3-0 scoring run from the Vaqueros late in the set, the Dons secured the match, fending off a rally, 25-23.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Muckelroy, the lone Don to reach double figures in kills, recorded 11 while tallying a season-high .360 hitting percentage.
