SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Bringing nearly two decades of coaching experience to the Hilltop, the University of San Francisco track and field program, and Head Coach
Jordan Carpenter have announced the addition of George Evans to the coaching staff.
"I am thrilled to welcome George to our staff at San Francisco," Carpenter said. "George brings an abundance of experience working at some of the top academic and athletic institutions in the nation, making him a perfect fit. He understands the balance needed to ensure our student-athletes thrive in competition, in the classroom, and beyond."
Evans joins the program after spending nearly a decade as an assistant coach at Yale from 2014-23. Working with the sprinters, Evans' leadership guided the Bulldogs to some of the program's best sprinting performances in school history.
Through the 2023 season, three of the top five men's 100-meter dash times and one of the top three women's times have come in Evans' tenure, including the school record on the men's side (10.43, Trenton Charles, 2022). During the indoor slate, he also oversaw the top women's 55-meter and 60-yard dash times in program history.
Before his time with the Bulldogs, Evans served as the head coach at Marietta College in Ohio from 2011-14. While at the helm, Evans helped the Pioneers break 40 school records and earn six All-America selections (in six different events). He coached four student-athletes to the NCAA Division III National Championships in his first season while guiding three more student-athletes to the NCAAs in his second season and one more in his third.
Leading the Pioneers to postseason success, Evans led the men's indoor track and field team to its best finish in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) in 2013 (third place) and also oversaw Marietta's first OAC individual cross country champion in 2011 and 2012.
Evans also served as an assistant coach at Brown, specializing in sprints/hurdles and relays for five years. During his time at Brown, he helped guide the student-athletes to 30 ECAC/IC4A qualifying marks, 10 individual Ivy League titles, and seven school records. He also coached nine NCAA Regional qualifiers.
A native of Boardman, Ohio, Evans began his coaching career as an assistant coach specializing in sprints/hurdles and relays at Youngstown State in 2004-05.
Evans received his B.A. in history from Lehigh in 2004, where he was a two-time Patriot League champion in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes and was named Lehigh's Athlete of the Year as a senior.
