Trawally Porta Records Double-Double, Dons Fall at San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team (2-2) dropped a nonconference decision on the road, falling 73-62 to San Diego State (4-0) Saturday afternoon at Viejas Arena.
 
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • San Francisco opened the game with a lead, scoring five straight points to take a 5-0 lead at the 5:54 mark of the first quarter. Debora dos Santos and Emma Trawally Porta connected on two-point field goals to guide the Dons in the opening minutes.
  • Following two baskets from San Diego State, Elle Papahronis and Debora dos Santos recorded layups in back-to-back possession to extend the lead to five, 9-4 at 3:17.
  • Despite the Aztecs trimming the Dons' lead to one, 9-8, with under three minutes left, the green and gold scored seven straight points and held the opposition scoreless to take a 16-8 advantage into the second quarter of play.
  • The Dons continued to hold the momentum at the start of the second quarter with a second-chance three-point basket from Trawally Porta. Freja Werth followed with a mid-range jump shot to extend the margin to nine, 21-12, at 7:35
  • The advantage extended to double-digits late in the half after Luana Leite knocked down a straight-away three-pointer to push the Dons' lead to 36-26 with 1:29 remaining. The Aztecs, however, scored points in back-to-back possessions to trim the lead to 36-30 at the halftime break.
  • In the third quarter, San Diego State gained its first lead, following a 10-0 scoring run to jump ahead, 46-40 at the 3:20 mark.
  • The Aztecs, building their defensive intensity in the period, held the Dons to without a field goal until the 2:39 mark when Trawally Porta snagged an offensive rebound and recorded a putback layup to trim the deficit to 46-42.
  • Both programs continued to trade baskets in the final minutes as San Diego State entered the fourth quarter on top, 52-48.
  • San Diego State dominated the fourth quarter, extending their margin to double digits, 64-54, midway through. The Aztecs continued to hold a double-digit advantage, outscoring the Dons 24-14 in the final quarter to secure the 73-62 victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Papahronis and Trawally Porta led the team off the bench, combining for 27 points and 14 rebounds. Papahronis scored a season-high 15 points while shooting nine-for-12 from the free-throw line.
  • Trawally Porta posted her first double-double of the season, with 12 points and 10 rebounds in 29 minutes. Providing the Dons with an efficient shooting performance, Trawally Porta shot 71.4 percent (five-for-seven) from the field while connecting on both of her three-point attempts. Defensively, she also added three blocks, the second straight game recording with at least three rejections in a single game.
