Akima Tabbed WCC Defensive Player of the Week

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Following a successful week on the road, highlighted by a five-set win over Pacific, Jolei Akima has been named Credit Union One West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league Monday afternoon.

Leading San Francisco's backline throughout the week, Akima recorded a team-high 47 digs, 4.70 digs per set, and handled 52 of the 54 serves she received for a .962 reception percentage in two road matches against Saint Mary's and Pacific.

Akima shined in the five-set win at Pacific on Saturday, Nov. 2, reaching the 20-dig threshold for the third time in the last four matches, totaling 29 to pace the team. She also added 18 digs and 3.60 digs per set at Saint Mary's on Thursday, Oct. 31.

Along with her defensive efforts, Akima added 11 assists to guide the Dons offensively from the libero position, including seven against the Gaels.

For San Francisco, this marks the second WCC Player of the Week this fall, as Delaney Ewing earned WCC Freshman of the Week earlier this season.
