SPOKANE, Wash. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team (11-15, 7-6 WCC) dropped a 78-48 West Coast Conference decision at No. 16/15 Gonzaga (27-2, 14-0 WCC) Thursday evening at the McCarthy Athletic Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Gonzaga opened the game with a 10-0 run, capped off with a Kayleigh Truong three-pointer at the 6:49 mark of the first quarter.
- Cami Fulcher got the Dons on the board and sparked a 5-0 run to cut the deficit in half, 10-5, just over a minute later.
- The Zags quickly responded, bumping their advantage back to double-digits, 15-5, on a Brynna Maxwell mid-range jumper with 3:10 remaining in the period.
- Marina Hernandez and Paula Tirado scored back-to-back baskets to bring the Dons to within six, 15-9, at 2:10, before the Bulldogs ended the first quarter on a 6-2 run.
- San Francisco hung around in the early stages of the second quarter as a Debora dos Santos layup and two free throws from Jasmine Gayles cut Gonzaga's lead to 23-15 at 7:27.
- The Bulldogs expanded on their lead in the following minutes, using a 7-0 run to gain a 15-point advantage, 30-15, midway through the quarter.
- After the Zags pushed their lead to 18, 35-17, Gayles closed the half with a driving layup to bring the Dons to within 16, 35-19.
- Both teams traded baskets in the early goings of the third quarter, with Fulcher, Gayles, and Leite scoring buckets to keep the Dons in the game.
- After the green and gold cut the deficit to 13, 44-31, on a second-chance layup from Hernandez at 5:34, the Bulldogs scored six straight points to expand their lead to 19, 50-31, with 4:14 remaining in the third.
- The Zags closed the quarter on a 7-0 run and hit a three-pointer with three seconds left to go up 22, 59-37, at the end of the period.
- Gonzaga held serve in the fourth quarter, outscoring San Francisco, 15-11 to earn the 26-point victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Fulcher led the Dons in scoring for the second time in three games, posting 14 points on 75 percent (six-for-eight) shooting. Fulcher was successful from distance, connecting on two of three attempts from the three-point line.
- Gayles reached double figures for the 17th consecutive game, adding 13 points on five-for-11 shooting. Gayles also hit the only free throws for the Dons, connecting on both of her attempts from the charity stripe.
- Hernandez played in a career-high 24 minutes, scoring four points, totaling four rebounds and two blocks.
