SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Competing up North for the second consecutive week, the University of San Francisco men's and women's track & field teams participated in the Hornet Invite, hosted by Sacramento State on Friday, Mar. 15, and Saturday, Mar. 16, at Hornet Stadium.
The women's program had a successful meet, earning a sixth-place team finish in a 17-team field with 42 points, while the men secured eight points and finished in a tie for 11th.
Beginning on Friday evening,
Grace Copeland kicked off with a strong finish in the 3000 meters, earning third-place at 9:39.68. On the men's side,
Ellis McKean made his season debut, leading the Dons in the 3000 meters, finishing in 15th place with a time of 8:35.73.
Lilly Gerhard kicked off Saturday in the field events, posting her best-ever throw in the shot put at 13.73 meters.
In the short-distance events,
Sophia Priester-Veasley and
Tatumn LaChapelle impressed in the 100 meters, setting new personal-best times of 12.22 and 12.41 seconds, respectively.
Olivia Alexandre dominated the field in the 400-meter hurdles, earning first place at 58.29 seconds and surpassing former Don Gabby Mace for the program record.
Making his season debut,
Jacob Cann ran a solid race in the 800 meters, earning a podium spot in third place with a time of 1:51.64.
Natalie Hlusi continued her successful first outdoor season with the Dons as she grabbed third place in the 1500 meters and set a new personal best time of 4:22.58.
Reid Headrick and
Daniel Abramowicz wrapped up the individual events with personal bests in the 1500 meters.
In the women's 4 x 400-meter relay,

Olivia Alexandre brought home fifth place at a combined time of 3:50.01
