Men's Basketball Signs Guard/Forward Jason Rivera-Torres

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Head coach Chris Gerlufsen and the University of San Francisco men's basketball program officially announced the addition of guard/forward Jason Rivera-Torres (Bronx, N.Y) on Wednesday.

"Our coaching staff is ecstatic to welcome Jason Rivera-Torres into our basketball family here at the University of San Francisco," said Gerlufsen . "Jason is a very talented two-way player who can score the ball and defend at a high level. His skillset and toughness make him a great addition to our team this upcoming year."

Originally committing to former NBA veteran Jerry Stackhouse at Vanderbilt, the versatile wing played in 29 games for the Commodores in 2023-24, which included two starts, while averaging 15.4 minutes per game.

Overall, he averaged 6.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game while shooting 76 percent from the free throw line. Notably, Rivera-Torres finished in double figures eight times last season in addition to logging 27 total steals, which was good for third on the team. Impressively, the Bronx native poured in a season-high 20 points against Alabama in Vanderbilt's SEC opener against Alabama on Jan. 6, 2024.

Before Vanderbilt, Rivera-Torres, who was a four-star recruit entering the college ranks, piled up the accolades during his time at John Marshall High School in Richmond, Virginia. Competing for the Justices in his final year, the swingman helped his team to a 28-0 record as the school captured the Class 2 VHSL State Championship in Virginia before winning the MaxPreps National Championship and finishing No. 1 in the final MaxPreps Top 25 rankings. Dominating his senior year, Rivera-Torres averaged 15.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.6 steals, 3.4 assists and 1.4 blocks as he earned All-State First Team, All-Region First Team and All-Metro First Team honors in Richmond. Prior to his final year at John Marshall, he played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Iona Prep in New Rochelle, New York before transferring to Bishop Walsh in Cumberland, Maryland as a junior.

Off the court, Rivera-Torres starred in "Swagger", an Apple TV+ series with Kevin Durant as one of the executive producers.
