SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Head coach
Chris Gerlufsen and the University of San Francisco men's basketball program announced the addition of forward Veniamin Abosi (Heraklion, Greece) on Friday afternoon.
Â
"We are thrilled to announce the addition of Veniamin Abosi to our University of San Francisco family," said Gerlufsen. "Ben is a versatile guard/forward from Greece who brings immense skill, toughness, and basketball IQ. We anticipate great things for Ben here on the Hilltop, and we can't wait for his arrival in the fall!"
Â
Known for his athleticism and versatility, Abosi arrives on the Hilltop after spending time with Olympiacos in Greece, where he played for their U18 team. Earlier this year, he played for the U18 team at the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament, which is the annual tournament that features the top U18 clubs in Europe.Â
Â
Notably, he grew up playing with the Olympiacos Piraeus junior team, which included winning the Greek National Cup in 2024. Additionally, he competed in the 2022 European U16 Championships and the 2023 European U18 Championships. He has also been a member of the Greek U16 and U18 National Teams.
Â
Overall, Abosi joins Carlton Linguard Jr. (UTSA), Jason Rivera-Torres (Vanderbilt), James O'Donnell (Centre of Excellence) and Tyrone Riley (St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy) as the fifth member of San Francisco's 2024 recruiting class.
